- A value bet is any bet where the odds offered by a soft bookmaker are higher than the true probability of the outcome. i.e. the odds imply a lower chance of happening than the actual probability. By consistently placing value bets, you guarantee a positive expected value in the long run, regardless of short-term results.
- We use Pinnacle and the Betfair Exchange as the benchmark for "true" odds, as these markets are shaped by sharp, informed money and are considered the most efficient in the world. We remove Pinnacle's margin to calculate the fair odds, then compare those fair odds against soft bookmaker prices. Whenever a soft book's odds are higher than Pinnacle's fair odds, a +EV alert is sent.
- No betting service can guarantee short-term profit. Value betting is a long-term strategy. You are betting with a statistical edge that plays out over hundreds of bets. Variance means you can lose over short periods even while betting correctly. However, consistently achieving positive CLV is the surest way to profit long-term.
